About the Course

The Psalms offer a path to express a range of human emotion and to encounter God in a new way. In times of great joy or deep grief, how might the Psalms help shape who we are – and who we are to one another? This course invites you to learn from experts in biblical interpretation and the arts to deepen your personal and communal engagement with the Psalms and the arts. In this course, you will meditate on psalms and artworks, engage with the Psalms theologically, explore artful interpretations of the Psalms, and examine the role of the Psalms in the life of the church. At the heart of the course and each session is a series of conversations with artists and scholars who give attention to the Psalms in their professional work and in their worship and prayer practice. This course is valuable for church leaders and members—individually or in community—who want to read and interpret scripture in conversation with the arts. You do not need to have a formal theological education to enroll in this course....

An amazing juxtaposition of art, dance, music, and commentary to create a meditative space to reflect on the Psalms examined in the course. There shoud be more courses like this one.

This course helped me with self realization of how trivial my concerns are compared to others that have it worse than me.

It is suggested that Religious Artworks incorporate Church Buildings and Structures with their linkages to the Holy Roman nation state for Christianity. Also for consideration, I advance the study of Stained Glass Windows (for the potent themes and the heroism highlighted in Sainthood emphasised- the tales they tell within are as adventurous and treacherous as the gothica and the angelic realms' outward promotion on buildings. For example, the Architectural Design for Houses of Worship from the newly renovated Notre Dame down to the American "Mega" Church phenomenon. The Cistern Chapel and The Tapestries and other Marble Statues and their artisans - these historical and poignant contributions to Religiosity in Cultural expression of Faith and why their significance was and still is relevant to our times: The masses could not read. I further proffer the inclusion of an appendage to this awesome cirriculum the power of the linkages between (1) Altars - "The Porch (King Solomon's Temple in Israel) and The Altar (both were entry to release lament occur even still today) (2) Doors - They time capsules that glow about Kingdom Culture and Kingdom Rule (3) Candles and the Minnoah and (4) Religious Movies can be explored as Statement Pieces too about our Faith. What themes are derived and/or address issues arising in Spirituality that influence Kingdom Culture and their Constructs inform the world around us. In recommendation, The Libertene, The Thornbirds, Dr. Schivago, Omega Code, Angels and Demons and the like (5) Religious Cinematography - the investigation (of the Movie Set for Religious Symbolism) and the locale or the glossary of Religious Works as The story of Joseph, Judah Ben-Her, Exodus and of the sort (6) Christian Symbolism - Christianity: general symbols of the Faith eg. The Fish Symbol, The Candy Cane etc. and the History and Significance of these items and customs and practices to our Lasting Faith; Poetic Imagery such as "The Lion laying down with the Lamb," and other cogent metaphors; the Psalms are laced with them (7) Worshipfulness or Devoutness expressed through Dietary Regimen ie. Passover meal (they deal with lament and prayer) Ref. Larry Richard Book Series "Every Prayer and Petition in the Bible (8) Ancient Texts (9) Prayer Themes from The Bible eg. Explore from "In a Great House" model of Spirituality onto "The Hall of Fame of Faithfulness or The Household called Faithful" in Galations all the way to "I go to prepare a place for you...into many mansions" (10) Faith in Our Times - The Rev. Dr. Billy Graham who demonstrated in modernity the power of the "Come to Jesus" moment into St. Peter account, "The Spirit and The Bride, Say Come" through Altar Ministry: A brief exploration (11) A Dissection of The Lord's Prayer to The Apostle's Creed (12) Hymnology and Spirituals Submitted with gladness of heart and renewed Faith
