About the Course

This is the second of four courses in the Google Business Intelligence Certificate. In this course, you'll explore data modeling and how databases are designed. Then you’ll learn about extract, transform, load (ETL) processes that extract data from source systems, transform it into formats that enable analysis, and drive business processes and goals. Google employees who currently work in BI will guide you through this course by providing hands-on activities that simulate job tasks, sharing examples from their day-to-day work, and helping you build business intelligence skills to prepare for a career in the field. Learners who complete the four courses in this certificate program will have the skills needed to apply for business intelligence jobs. This certificate program assumes prior knowledge of foundational analytical principles, skills, and tools covered in the Google Data Analytics Certificate. By the end of this course, you will: -Determine which data models are appropriate for different business requirements -Describe the difference between creating and interacting with a data model -Create data models to address different types of questions -Explain the parts of the extract, transform, load (ETL) process and tools used in ETL -Understand extraction processes and tools for different data storage systems -Design an ETL process that meets organizational and stakeholder needs -Design data pipelines to automate BI processes...

This course is not bad, but not great. It is certainly good enough to be followed through, and I would recommend it. However, the structure is rather messy. For a course that teaches pipelines and rules, it lacks such clarity. The course should provide more context to the lessons, at the start or before videos, etc. For example, take the section on business rules - are they meant to be something always hardcoded into a pipeline? Are they rules agreed on by stakeholders and to be implemented one way or another, not necessarily always hardcoded? Etc. That information should be provided from the outset, not as a latter point. So that it can always be clear to the learner what exactly they are learning about. That was the strength of the Google Data Analytics course. The path was clear, and the necessary key points were drilled in again and again. Here, they relied too much on remembering terminologies from glossaries from way back, or having to Google to get additional information. Towards the end, with the exemplar - that's great and all to get some additional SQL code to work with, but what is the expected output? Even a screenshot of the first ten lines of the resultant csv file would have been nice. These kind of stuff. It is fine for someone, like me, who has experience already; but not all students are like that. I am sure every learner can reach the finish line, but the path can certainly be much more refined. Again, I do recommend the course. Just that it is not structured and formatted well. But the course still works.

Video content is the same as reading but much less in-depth, it didn't help to understand the topic at all. Final project Activity is not in-depth enough to understand any practical SQL or BI skills, but just spend time to know the GCP BigQuery file upload process. The whole course 2 is really disappointing compare with course 1.

Course topics were great and challenging, the main lecture instructor's pace was a bit slow and not as pedagogical as I would have liked. Instructor Mana's quote on being successful was the most insightful fragment of knowledge I learned in this course
